Right: A dramatic view of the Cornish coast by Alfred
"I think my love of the sea began as a boy when I spent
many hours at the harbourside watching all types of shipping
coming and going in and out of Mounts Bay. I decided then that I
wanted to go to sea at some time in the future. I volunteered to
join the Royal Navy during the second world war, but owing to
circumstances found myself serving with the Paras in the far
east for five years.
Having returned to Civvy Street in
1947 I found that I couldn't settle down, so I joined the
Merchant Navy fulfilling my boyhood dreams tramping around the
world on oil tankers. Over a period of fifteen years or so I
sailed the seven seas and saw many countries, the sea gradually
seeped into my blood and I realise now that it was providing me
with the material I would need for future paintings..."
Leonard Fuller &
An extensive and very important collection of
portraits by the renowned St Ives artists Marjorie Mostyn
and Leonard Fuller at affordable prices.
As St Ives art enthusiasts will know, Marjories' familiar name
was Nancy, and she was married to Fuller. The couple taught art
at their school of painting in St Ives and were long serving
members of the St Ives Society of Artists (STISA). This rare
collection includes over 100 original works.
Whilst the majority of our inventory
is given to traditional art, we are very pleased to offer a good
selection of modern works by the following artists:
Ward (b1945) - Eric Ward's pictures continue the best
traditions of the St Ives School of Painting exemplified by the
great artists of the past...
Insoll (b1956) - Chris attended Chelsea School of Art and
Falmouth School of Art before establishing himself in Portscatho,
based in the heart of the Roseland Peninsula on the South Cornish

early 1960's and in 1963 had a solo exhibition at the Newlyn Art

visited and supported by Peter Lanyon, Roger Hilton and other
companions in the Newlyn Society of Artists.

Taylor (b1947) - Peter was born in Clitheroe, Lancashire,
