Breton Girl
Henry Scott Tuke. An early portrait of a Breton girl, oil on mahogany panel, 11.75 inches x 13.75 inches, set in oval mount and period frame. Condition is excellent as it is behind glass. Tuke made a living early in his career by painting portraits and this example probably dates to between 1881 and 1883 during which time he was studying and painting in France. The pallet, broad brush strokes and attitude of the sitter are all typical of Tuke's early portraiture. Signed.
