From Newlyn to Lamorna
From Newlyn to Lamorna is an exhibition of paintings by artists associated with the early Newlyn School and pre-WW1 Lamorna Group. The exhibition is a collaboration between two galleries and will be "fluid" as paintings will be changed during the show. One of the highlights is a series of Lamorna paintings by Eric Ward, one of Cornwall's leading contemporary artists.

A noted portaitist, Todd was
born in Cornwall, the son of the famous Newlyn artist, Ralph Todd.
After army service in the 1914-18 war, he entered the Slade School
studying under Professor Tonks. On leaving the Slade, he practised
water-colour painting and engraving and became known in this country and
America.
He went on to teach engraving at the Central School of Arts and Crafts
in the 1930s and then painting at the Royal Academy Schools from 1945-49
and the City of London School from 1950-56. During this later period he
painted many fine portraits of famous people.
He was very critical of his own work and turned down many commissions. |
