From Newlyn to Lamorna
From Newlyn to Lamorna is an exhibition of paintings by artists associated with the early Newlyn School and pre-WW1 Lamorna Group. The exhibition is a collaboration between two galleries and will be "fluid" as paintings will be changed during the show. One of the highlights is a series of Lamorna paintings by Eric Ward, one of Cornwall's leading contemporary artists.

George Brooks Percy Spooner Lillingston. A charming study of old Newlyn, watercolour, signed and dated 1883. 14in x 23in
|
Lillingston was born in Birmingham and lived in London, Cheltenham, Leamington Spa, Newlyn and Plymouth. He settled in Newlyn prior to 1890, where he remained until circa 1913.
Interestingly, the date of this painting (1883) would suggest that he visited Newlyn several years before he moved to Cornwall. In 1883 he would have found fellow Birmingham artists Walter Langley, Edwin Harris, William Breakspeare, David Haddon and William Wainwright working in the fledgling colony.
