The records above are from Art Prices Current. The first three annual volumes include results for Christies only. From 1910 the results cover Christies, Sotheby's (Sotheby, Wilkinson and Hodge) and Messrs. Puttick and Simpson. From 1927 (Volume VII of the new, second series) the scope was enlarged to include Christies, Sotheby's, Hampton & Sons, Knight, Frank & Rutley and Puttick & Simpson. Other leading salerooms were included in subsequent volumes.
Works by Forbes attracted high prices pre WW1 and declined somewhat in the inter-war years. Post WW2 his popularity declines to the extent that no sales are recorded after 1950. From 1971 - 2011 there are 486 sale records for works by Forbes (Art Sales Index), some of which will be duplicates as the same paintings have been re-sold. These results cover the major (London) and leading provincial salerooms. Prices began to appreciate considerably from the mid 1980's, and the record price was achieved in June 2000 (Phillips, London. Seine Boat - £1,1 million).
