David
James - Godrevy Lighthouse, St Ives Bay, 1891.
Home - after 118 years!
We are selling limited edition (100) prints of this painting - details

| The Painting |
The Artist |
During the summer of
1891 a talented artist, whose seascapes already graced the walls
at the Royal Academy, negotiated the steep decline to the beach
at Gwithian and carefully selected a vantage point on the rocks
directly opposite the lighthouse at Godrevy.
The result of his endeavours that day, a large oil painting
titled 'Godrevy Lighthouse - St Ives Bay', was consigned
for sale at the renowned T. Richardson & Co., Fine
Art Gallery, 43 Picadilly, London.
Who purchased it remains a mystery, but it eventually found
it's way to the USA, from where we recently acquired it.
'Godrevy Lighthouse - St Ives Bay' is on display in the
gallery, and we will soon be offering a limited edition of
100 high-quality colour prints. More |
David James, about whom very
little is known biographically, flourished around 1880 as a
painter of seascapes.
He was most interested in pure studies of the sea, and was
particularly interested in painting waves. Much of his work,
which still regularly appears at auction, was done on the coast
of Cornwall. Many of his paintings exhibit a skilfully toned
blue as the predominant colour and a mastery of the
ever-changing nature of waves and shorelines.
He exhibited several works at the Royal Academy from London
addresses in Dalston and Maida Vale between 1886 and 1897.
Titles at the RA include A North Cornish Breaker and An Atlantic
Roll etc. His last known work is dated 1904. The National
Maritime Museum holds one of his paintings of breakers dated
1898. |

Exchange
We are pleased to offer a unique art exchange scheme
whereby you can exchange or part-exchange any painting
purchased from us for a painting or paintings of your choice
at any time in the future. All purchases since January
2007 are eligible, and you may exchange/part-exchange your
painting for works of similar or higher value, so if your home
decor or taste changes you can easily update your art to reflect
those changes.
The scheme might be of particular interest to businesses, as it
allows you to display high-quality, original art in your
office/showroom and to update it periodically to maintain an
ever-changing aesthetic display.
It is also a useful scheme for collectors who wish to "trade
up" and build value in their collection.
